Microfiction: The Happy Photographer (Week 5 Extra Credit)

Once upon a time, in a land far far away, lived a sweet, gentle little photographer. Now this photographer loved taking pictures, but not just any pictures, she loved taking pictures of her precious dogs. She had four dogs, and they were always running around, both in and out of the house. One day, she took her camera to take pictures of the dogs, but she couldn't find the fourth. Frantic, she ran around the house and did not stop looking until she found him. Once she found him, she rejoiced and took hundreds and hundreds of pictures to celebrate.

Author's Note
I was thinking of inspiration, and saw my camera laying on my bed so figured I would write something about photography. I love taking pictures of my dogs, so the story just kind of flowed together. I also tied in themes from the Parable of the Lost Sheep as recorded in the Bible in the book of Luke.

  1. Hey Megan! I just want you to know that I scrolled for more after reading your 100 word story. It reeled me in that well that I thought there was more! I like both inspirations for both stories; tying in biblical themes is something very effective in story writing. I think both your 100 word story and six word story laid out great imagery and gave enough to the reader to let their imagination do the rest of the work. Great job this week!

  2. The first story really did rope me in. I enjoyed it as I love dogs and have four of my own. One of which is an escape artist and another being pure chaos which can be interesting. I also used to be into photography. I took a Photography class in high school where we used 35mm black and white film, I used a Canon my grandparents had from the 70's. Now my sister is using it and has delved further into photography. Needless to say, your story had lots of relatable themes.

  3. Hey Megan!
I really liked this cute little story, I think it is really light hearted with such a good moral. I think photography is awesome and animals too, so this is a great theme. One thing that I wished I had been able to see from this story was some sort of twist ending, this is something that was drilled into my brain from my creative writing class with Dr. Stalling. The twist does not have to be dark or scary, just something unexpected. This is something I would look into for future micro fictions.

  4. Hi Megan! I liked your short story a lot. I also really like the parable in Luke that you based it off of. It's a short story but a very powerful idea. I think that short stories like this typically pack the most punch when they are coupled with other short stories - you could consider compiling a few of your microfictions into one project!

  5. Hi Megan!
I loved how you took the story and put it in your own life. You tied it to your passions and interests which is so special. I also love dogs so changing it to taking picture of them shows the person you are. I also think that it is true that we rejoice when we find lost things. I always get so happy when I find lost things.
