Wikipedia Trail .. From Beauty and the Beast to the Rouen Opera House (Week 2 Extra Credit)

After writing about this famous story, and when two of the posts I was commenting on wrote a retelling of this, I wanted to explore more about the original story and adaptations that came from it. Originally written in 1740, the first adaptation was written by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont in 1756.

Born in 1711, Jeanne-Marie lost her mom when she was eleven, and she was mentored, along with her younger sister, by two wealthy women. She was married twice and divorced twice, and wrote several other fairy tales.

Rouen is the birthplace of Jeanne-Marie, and the capital of Normandy. It was one of the largest cities in medieval Europe, and is known for its cathedral.

Well my first wikipedia trail led me here, which is entirely not where I thought it would go :) It was interesting to learn more about the author of the first adaption and her birthplace and its history. The current opera house was constructed in 1954!
