The ZPD is representative of the zone of the closest psychological development of learners that includes emotional, cognitive, and volitional psychological processes. It was introduced, but not fully developed, by Lev Vygotsky.
Russian born, Vygotsky was a Soviet psychologist best known for his work on psychological developments in children. His concept of ZPD is the distance between what a student (beginner at something) can accomplish on their own vs. what they can accomplish with someone more knowledgeable.
